Championship morning headlines: Leeds United locked out of Liverpool talks over Bristol City target

Leeds out of Brewster talks

Liverpool have snubbed talks with Leeds United over Rhian Brewster.

The young Reds striker is available for loan in January, with a host of Championship clubs being linked to him, including Bristol City.

Whilst Swansea City are currently said to be leading the race, Leeds are also interested, with the Elland Road club on the cusp of losing Eddie Nketiah to an Arsenal recall following his lack of football.

Yet Liverpool have taken note of how sparingly Leeds have used Nketiah and have opted against sending Brewster to Elland Road.

Robins identify striker

Bristol City are weighing up a move for Slovenian international Andraz Sporar.

Sporar is currently at Slovan Bratislava and has enjoyed a prolific 2019, including scoring 20 in 26 matches so far this season.

The 25-year-old has been extensively scouted by the Robins but, should they opt to make a move for the former Basel man, they face competition from Celtic.

Whilst Hoops boss Neil Lennon has denied the club have made a bid for Sporar, he confirmed they are in talks over the player.

Derby boss explains recall

Derby boss Phillip Cocu has explained why Jamie Paterson's loan deal at the Rams was cut short as the player returned to Bristol City this week.

Cocu told the Derby Telegraph : "It just didn't work like we had in mind.

"He played in the middle of the first half of the season a few games as a second striker or as a '10', on the wing he struggled a little bit more.

"In the end, if he is not getting involved here anymore, then for the player it is better to find somewhere else to play, and also for us.

"He is a good lad, and hopefully he gets back on grass but it didn't work here."
