Championship morning headlines: Huddersfield Town lead race for Bristol City man as Newcastle United reject deal

Huddersfield leading way for Szmodics

Huddersfield Town are leading the chase for Bristol City star Sammie Szmodics.

The attacking midfielder was in-demand when available on a free transfer from Colchester United in the summer, with the Robins winning the race for his signature.

Yet his game time has been limited, and City will now look to loan him out in January to get some minutes.

Huddersfield are in front of Hull City to grab him on loan until the end of the season.

Newcastle reject Charlton star

Chronicle Live report that Newcastle United have played down talk of a move for Charlton Athletic striker Macauley Bonne.

Bonne has netted six goals for the Addicks so far this season - an impressive haul for a player who made the step up from Leyton Orient in the summer.

Whilst the player would be keen on a move, he is not currently on the Magpies' shopping list.

Bristol City man to go out on loan

Lee Johnson admits Antoine Semenyo could leave Bristol City on loan in January.

He said: "We have got options because we've got a lot of good young players.

"We'll have a look at it and do what's right for him. He can affect first team games and he needed a bit of a rest from it even though obviously he was there.

"There was a bit of a pressure build up particularly at home where maybe the fans weren't quite taking to him like they did at the start.

"What comes off the back of that with social media and the money he is on now from what he was on before, there's a whole growing up process here that we've got to try and nuture.

"In terms of long term future at the football club, it's one I'm really excited about."
