Championship headlines: Bristol City coach on suspension, AC Milan want Leeds United flop

These are the headlines from across the Championship on Thursday, March 26...

Bristol City coach on coronavirus suspension

Bristol City's head of fitness and conditioning has opened up on how the players are keeping fit during the coronavirus suspension.

Patrick Orme revealed a number of players had taken fitness equipment home when informed they would not be allowed into the training ground.

He said: "There was a bit of a siege on the gym at the training ground when we were told we would be spending some time at home - there’s definitely not much equipment left in there at the moment!

"That shows how keen the players are to make sure they are looking after themselves and staying in good physical condition though."

AC Milan want Leeds flop

AC Milan are reportedly interested in a move for former Leeds forward Caleb Ekuban after his stellar form for Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Ekuban made just 21 appearances for Leeds and scored one goal during his time at Elland Road before being sold to the Turkish side for £900,000.

But he is now being touted for a £9 million move to Italy after three goals and three assists in 15 Super Lig games this year.

Former Man United man on Assombalonga future

Jonathan Greening has said Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate's priority this summer will be to offload forward Britt Assombalonga.

The forward, who has previously been linked with the likes of Leeds and Bristol City, is on one of the biggest wages at the club but is being tipped to head out of the exit door come the summer.

Greening said: “He’s [Jonathan Woodgate] been told he has to sell Assombalonga in the transfer window as he’s a big earner.

“He’s hasn’t got a massive transfer budget, so he’s got to look for bargains and try and get the right players to help Middlesbrough climb that league."

Bielsa rift revealed

The Athletic's Leeds United reporter Phil Hay has revealed the one player Marcelo Bielsa has had a rift with during his time as Whites boss.

Speaking in his latest Q&A, Hay said the former Marseille boss grew tired of defender Pontuss Janssen.

Hay said: “He can be hard work and he’s not afraid to ruffle feathers but his authority at Leeds is absolute. No-one takes him on and everyone defers to him.

“It’s one reason when the last two seasons have gone so well – the dressing room has been on a tight leash. Jansson is the only player he tired of.”
