Championship gossip: Aston Villa to make £20m bid for prolific striker; Marcelo Bielsa set to make Leeds United changes; Nottingham Forest told to chase Middlesbrough star

Villa ready £20m bid

The Sun report that Aston Villa are readying a £20m for Brentford star Neal Maupay.

Maupay netted 25 goals for Brentford this season and Dean Smith wants a reunion with his former striker after winning promotion to the Premier League.

Villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are willing to back Smith in the transfer market and could sanction a big-money move for the 22-year-old Frenchman.

Leeds transfer plans revealed

The Yorkshire Evening Post state Marcelo Bielsa is planning on making four signings this summer.

Leeds fell short in the play-offs this season, going down to a semi-final defeat to Derby County.

The Argentine feels Leeds need to bring in added quality this summer if they are to secure promotion.

Forest told to target Assombalonga

Writing in his column for Nottinghamshire Live, Nottingham Forest legend Kenny Burns says the club should try to re-sign Britt Assombalonga from Middlesbrough.

He said: "Personally, I was always a big fan of Britt when he was at Nottingham Forest and his goal record speaks for itself - he's been missed.

"Yes, the rest of his game might not be that great, but he puts the ball in the net when he gets a chance and that’s what you want from your strikers.

"Generally, I’d always advise against players and managers going back to their former clubs, however, if there was any chance of bringing him back to Forest, I may be tempted to make an exception."

Burns says the finances would make a Forest return "highly improbable", but added: "He's a good player and has been underused at Boro since moving there."
