Championship club to rival Nottingham Forest for reported target Kevin Long

Nottingham Forest have a rival for the signature of reported target, Burnley central defender Kevin Long.

The Reds were this week linked with the Republic of Ireland international and now the Sun on Sunday say Championship rivals Stoke City are also keen.

The 28-year-old missed Burnley's pre-season friendly against Parma, but manager Sean Dyche says that was due to a groin problem.

Burnley would likely be highly reluctant to sell Long if they lose James Tarkowski, with the England international touted as a replacement for Harry Maguire at Leicester City.

Forest have a wealth of central defenders, but they are looking to strengthen in that area before the transfer window closes on Thursday.
