Championship club to close stands for next two games due to "ongoing repairs"

Birmingham City's capacity for their next two home games will be greatly reduced, owing to ongoing repairs.

The Championship club have today announced that the Kop and Tilton stands at St Andrew's Stadium will both be shut for their next two home games against Stoke City and AFC Bournemouth respectively.

The areas were in need of repair with work originally beginning last December, during the long period when supporters were prevented from attending games because of the coronavirus pandemic and relevant restrictions.

However, a club statement released today has confirmed that more time is now needed to complete the work.

Birmingham posted a statement on their website, saying: "It is with deep regret that the club have issued the following statement in relation to the ongoing remedial works to the Kop and Tilton stands: Due to an unexpected delay, communicated to the Club as late as Tuesday afternoon, the Kop and Tilton will remain closed for our Sky Bet Championship fixtures with Stoke City and Bournemouth.

"Tickets are no longer on sale for either fixture.

"With safety being of paramount importance to the Club, this position will remain under review with updates provided accordingly.

"A full statement will be issued later today detailing how this will affect supporters."

There were over 6,000 fans at St Andrew's for City's 1-0 League Cup win against Colchester on Tuesday night.

City are due to host Stoke on Saturday and Bournemouth next Wednesday.
