Championship club plot January move for Nottingham Forest 'target' Dwight Gayle - reports

Reported Nottingham Forest target Dwight Gayle appears to be attracting further interest from the Sky Bet Championship.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Newcastle United striker since the summer, and reportedly remain in the running to acquire his services during the January transfer window.

But fresh reports from Football Insider claim that Leeds United are preparing to make a move for Gayle when the transfer window opens in the New Year.

The report adds that Leeds are concerned that Eddie Nketiah will return to parent club Arsenal in January, and as a result are preparing to bring Gayle to Elland Road.

Leeds have also credited with an interest in Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster, who is also thought to have potential suitors in the Premier League.

It has been claimed that Newcastle will only entertain a permanent offer for Gayle in January, with reports earlier in the week claiming that the Magpies would only entertain bids in excess of £15m.

Should the Reds opt for a deal, that figure would surpass the £13 club-record fee they spent on Benfica's Joao Carvalho last summer.

Gayle endured a nightmare pre-season in the North East owing to a calf problem, though has found opportunities limited following the £40m signing of Brazilian striker Joelinton.

The report suggests Gayle would be keen to move on in search of regular football, and spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, where he netted 24 times.
