Championship club chief makes claim that will worry Nottingham Forest fans

Barnsley manager Gerhard Struber says he thinks the Championship will be declared null and void.

The League has been suspended because of coronavirus with the pandemic causing all-but-one of Nottingham Forest 's matches to be postponed.

That decision has applied to the Premier League, EFL and Leagues One and Two with no football to be played until April 30 and even that date could be pushed back further.

Forest were due to play Barnsley in their penultimate match of the season, a match that is one of eight postponed.

Sabri Lamouchi 's side are currently in fifth place, ten points off the automatic promotion places but five points clear of Bristol City in seventh place.

They're a good bet for a top six finish and a shot at the lottery of the play-offs.

Barnsley, though, are rock bottom and seven points from safety.

That might mean Struber's comments in the Austrian press need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

“I can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel at the moment,” he told Salzburger Nachrichten via Sport Witness.

“I don’t think the Championship can be finished this year. I’m afraid it (the ongoing situation) will be very bad.

“The Coronavirus is something that makes football just small enough that I find it hard to imagine that it can be brought to a clean end.

"It’s important to be able to take a breather.”
