Championship boss opens door for Ethan Ampadu deal from Chelsea

Swansea City boss Steve Cooper has opened the door for Ethan Ampadu to join the club on loan for the 2019/20 season.

After getting little game time under Maurizio Sarri last season, new head coach Frank Lampard confirmed that the 18-year-old is set to go out on loan for the upcoming campaign.

"Ethan is not here [in Japan], he's not injured, as we're looking at the possibility of him going on loan for the season," Lampard said.

"I really wanted to work with Ethan this year, so that is a slight disappointment but it is the benefit for him and in midfield we have a lot of quality, and in defence, which would be his positions. So each player is case by case."

Ampadu will be a much-wanted youngster after impressing in the few chances that he has had over the course of his time in the Chelsea first team.

Aston Villa and Derby County have both been linked with a move for the Wales international, who can play in either defence or midfield.

Cardiff City and Swansea have also been linked with Ampadu, and new Swans manager Cooper has opened the door for a potential move.

"Ethan's a really good player," Cooper was quoted as saying by WalesOnline .

"I think I read today that there might be a loan deal going on. I can't say we've had conversations with Chelsea but if he would be available then he'd be a very good player.

"But there's no news on that from Swansea's point of view."
