Champions Trophy touches down in Pakistan for nationwide Tour

NEW DELHI: The ICC transported the Champions Trophy to Pakistan on November 16 for a nationwide tour, despite not having finalised the tournament schedule.

A PCB representative confirmed that the trophy's journey would commence from Skardu in northern Pakistan.

"The tour will cover major Pakistani cities where the Champions Trophy matches are set to be played," the official said.

The trophy's arrival coincides with the ICC awaiting PCB's response regarding a hybrid model for hosting the event, following India's decision not to travel to Pakistan.

The planned trophy unveiling in Lahore was previously delayed due to India's announcement about not sending their team to Pakistan, coupled with the city's severe smog conditions.

ICC officials transported the trophy from Dubai to Islamabad on November 16.

The promotional tour, scheduled to end on November 24, is designed to generate interest for the Champions Trophy, planned for February 19 to March 9, 2024.

The ICC has not yet formally addressed India's refusal to participate in Pakistan.

"What is the purpose of this trophy tour when no one really knows at which venues the tournament will be held and whether Pakistan and India will play against each other in the event," former Test captain Moin Khan said.

He noted that cricket enthusiasts were still waiting for the tournament's final schedule.

"Strange having a trophy tour without the schedule being announced," he added.
