Champions League winner on the 'threat' that sparked his Chelsea departure

Former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has opened up about the circumstances the led to him leaving Stamford Bridge in 2013.

The 38-year-old made 229 appearances and contributed 45 goals and 44 assists in six years in west London, but left under a cloud a year after not being selected to be a member of any Chelsea squad and made to train with the youth team.

Malouda was eventually released and joined Trabzonspor at the end of the season and has since played for Metz, Delhi Dynamos and FC Differdange 03.

The Frenchman won six trophies during his time at the club, including the Champions League but it was the final of that tournament that proved to be his last game for the club.

The former France international told Stadium Astro : "What happened is we disagreed on one point.

"I said something and was not following their recommendation."

"There was some kind of threat.

"So I disagreed with that. I expressed it my way, so there was a threat.  But I am not scared of any threat, so I said ‘do what you have to do’.

"I will not respond."

It's not the first time that Malouda has spoken out about his treatment by the Blues' hierarchy.

He told the Daily Mail in 2014: "There were these nonsense stories in the media. I was supposed to be asking for too much money. The directors did all they could to discredit me. I was sent to the academy as an example to show that a player shouldn’t decide his future.

That said, it seems the midfielder has no ill will to most at Chelsea and he looks back fondly on his achievements with the club.

He said: "What I did and what I achieved at Chelsea, no-one can take it away. I get respect from the people at the club, from the technical staff to the groundsman.

"Every time I go there, I am respected because I stand by my values."
