Champions League supercomputer predicts who will lift trophy as Liverpool chances revealed

Liverpool continue to fight on all four fronts and one piece of silverware they'll be desperate to win this season is the Champions League.

The Reds have progressed to the knockout stages of the competition and they beat Inter Milan 2-0 in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie last week.

They welcome the Serie A giants to Anfield next month in a bid to book themselves a spot in the quarter-finals, but just how far are they expected to go in the competition?

Jurgen Klopp's side have been given a 18% chance of winning the trophy this season, along with Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.

That's according to a forecast from FiveThirtyEight, who claim Manchester City are the favourites this time around.

Their round-by-round probabilities have given the Premier League champions a 27% chance of winning their final, significantly higher than their domestic counterparts.

Ajax are also in the top five with a 12% chance, along with Chelsea, who have been given 10%.

Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Real Madrid all currently have less than a 5% chance of winning the biggest prize in Europe.

FiveThirtyEight's forecasts are based on Soccer Power Index (SPI) ratings, which uses live match data to predict results of football competitions around the globe.

Liverpool last won the Champions League in 2019, but have been knocked out by Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid the last two years.

Manchester City are firm favourites to win the competition for the first time in their history and they came close last season, but were pipped 1-0 by Chelsea in the final.
