Champions League 'set for mini-tournament in Portugal' to crown 2019-20 winners

The conclusion of the Champions League season could be moved to Lisbon for a mini-tournament in August, according to reports.

The competition's finale was originally scheduled for May 30 in Istanbul before the coronavirus pandemic put sport across the globe on pause.

With 17 fixtures left in this season's Champions League campaign, Uefa were previously understood to be considering playing matches behind closed doors every three days during August.

Turkish authorities are struggling to pay for the event without fans, and German publication Bild now claim Lisbon are leading to race for a new host city.

European football's governing body reportedly hopes to resume the Champions League and Europa League knockout stages on August 7.

Games would then be played twice a week, with the semi-finals held between August 18 and 22 before the final is hosted on August 29.

The next Champions League season would then start in September after a short break.
