UEFA have announced a number of rule changes ahead of the Champions League returning next month.
The governing body last month announced that the 2019/20 Champions League will conclude with a ‘final-eight’ mini-tournament in Lisbon in August.
The quarter- and semi-finals will be reduced to one leg from the standard two-leg format, with the games commencing on 12 August and the final taking place on 23 August.
Fans will not be allowed to attend the games under current conditions, but Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin admitted that “things change rapidly,” in a briefing last month.
And now UEFA have confirmed that unplayed round of 16 second legs will be held either at the club's home ground or at a venue assigned by them.
Sides can also register a maximum of three new 'List A' players, but each squad is still limited to 25 List A players and players must have been already registered and eligible to play for the club at domestic level since 3 February.
And similar to the Premier League, teams will be able to make five substitutions a game but will only be allowed to make these changes at three points in the game.
These three occasions do not include changes at half-time, between the end of normal playing time and extra-time, and at half-time during extra time. One additional substitution may also be allowed during extra-time.
A total of 23 players will be allowed on a team's teamsheet for games instead of 18, something usually only permitted for the final.
Both Chelsea and Manchester City are still alive and kicking in this season’s competition and have the second-leg of their respective last-16 ties against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid still to play.
