After a season disrupted by COVID-19 in 2020, the Champions League fixture schedule for the 2020/21 campaign has been designed to deal with the impact of further lockdown restrictions that could affect European football this winter.
Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are the four Premier League representatives in Europe's leading club competition this season with Arsenal, Leicester City and 2019 finalists Tottenham Hotspur missing out on a top four place earlier this year.
December is usually the final month of Champions League group stage fixtures but UEFA have ruled that games can be played as late as January 28 should COVID-19 derail the planned calendar and delay matches.
If it is not possible to complete the group stage within this extended window a committee will be charged with deciding which clubs will qualify for the knockout stages.
However, the Champions League organisers will be hoping that their competition can stick to its planned set of dates for the six group stage match days and two-legged ties across the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals ahead of the final in May 2021.
