Champions League: PSG boss Enrique vows to attack Bayern in push for final

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has pledged that his side will maintain their high-octane style of play in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich, at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

PSG thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 at the venue last May to claim the Champions League crown for the first time.

On the club's first return to the stadium since the victory, Enrique said his team would not attempt to defend their one-goal advantage following a 5-4 win at the Parc des Princes in Paris on 28 April.

"We are ready, we know that Bayern can get back into the tie and that we can also score goals," said the 55-year-old Spaniard. "We are certainly not here in Munich to defend. I think neither team accepts that the other is better, and that's what this match will reflect."

During the first leg, PSG surged into a 5-2 lead before Bayern scored two late goals to set up an intriguing second leg.

"As a team we have the same target as in every away game," Enrique said. "That is our mentality, we try to win every game and we don't need to play for a particular result because we just want to win."

Hakimi on the sidelines

PSG will be without key defender Achraf Hakimi. The 27-year-old Morocco international sustained an injury to his right thigh and will remain on the sidelines until the end of the month. France international Warren Zaïre-Emery is expected to replace him.

Bayern will be without the Germany international Serge Gnabry.

"Everyone is raring to go," said Bayern boss Vincent Kompany. "It’s a real difference compared to last season in the quater-finals when we had three key players out. We’re in top physical shape, but so are PSG.”

Kompany, who took over from Thomas Tuchel as head coach in May 2024, led the side to the Bundesliga title the following year.

And he has steered the free-scoring side to the 2026 Bundesliga crown. During their surge to their 35th top flight championship they racked up 109 goals.

PSG remain in a battle with Lens for the Ligue 1 championship, with three games remaining.

"At the start of the season, few people thought Bayern would make it to the Champions League final," said Kompany.

“PSG have been the strongest club in Europe for the past two years," the 40-year-old Belgian added. "That’s obvious. They have impressive quality. The strength of this team, beyond the coaching staff, lies in the youth of the squad. That’s why PSG will remain at this level for a few more years.”

The winner of the tie will play Arsenal in the final at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on 30 May.

England international Bukayo Sako scored just before half-time at the Emirates Stadium in north London on Tuesday night to give the Premier League pacesetters a 2-1 aggregate victory over Atletico Madrid.
