Champions League: Lyon v Bayern Munich semi-final second leg

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Lyon fans cheer on their team against Bayern Munich in the Champions League
After their poor performance in the first leg, which Bayern won 1-0, Lyon need to pull out all the stops in order to make it to the final. The Lyon fans inside the Stade De Gerland are certainly doing their bit by creating a tremendous atmosphere

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Bayern Munich Arjen Robben goes past Lyon's Jean II Makoun
Though they are playing better than the stinker of a performance they put in last week, Lyon still aren't playing well and it's Bayern who have been able to stamp their authority on the match and had most of the possession and attempts on goal in the first 20 minutes of the match

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Olic scores to make it 1-0
After 25 minutes Bayern finally manage to score the goal their efforts deserve. Schweinsteiger and Muller exchange passes on the edge of the box before Muller pulls the ball back to Olic. The Croatian takes one touch to control it and slams it past the exposed Lloris. Lyon now need three goals to win which seeing as they haven't mustered a shot so far this evening will be quite a task

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Lyon's Michel Bastos vies for the ball with Bayern Munich's Hamid Altintop
The goal seems to have stirred Lyon into life and they finally create a chance, and what a chance it is. Michel Bastos, right, is only six yards out when he is given the ball on a plate by Govou, but somehow contrives to volley it wide. A golden chance wasted

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Cris sent off
Just on the hour mark referee Massimo Busacca does his bit to end any chance Lyon have of pulling the tie around when he sends off Cris. The defender slid in and cleanly won the ball but the referee thought differently and booked him. Cris clapped sarcastically and was shown a second yellow and then a red card

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Olic scores his, and Bayern's, second goal against Lyon
With 67 minutes gone, Altintop splits the Lyon defence with a fine disguised pass which Olic runs on to and then larrups the ball past Lloris who has no chance. It's now 2-0 to Bayern and unless Lyon can pull some kind of miracle out of the bag, it's game over

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Lyon fans look dejected
The look on the faces of these Lyon fans watching the match on a big screen shows what they know in their hearts, with their team down to 10 men and needing four goals to win the tie, that their dream of Champions League glory will have to wait another year

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Olic scores his hat-trick
In the 78th minute and just three minutes after being denied his hat-trick by a great tackle by Makoun, Olic finally bags it, and a "proper" hat-trick it is too - right foot, left foot and header. It's all too easy for the Croatian forward as he steps away from his marker to meet Lahm's chipped cross and power home a header from seven yards out...

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Lloris has no chance with Olic's header
...the power of the header means that Lloris has no chance and the blame for this goal must again be levelled at his defence

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Hamit Alintop misses a chance from 10 yards out
In the last minute it could so easily have been 4-0 and the score-line would have reflected the dominance that Bayern had over the lacklustre French side, but Hamit Alintop scoops the ball over from just 10 yards out

Lyon v Bayern Munich: Bayern Munich players celebrate infront of their fans
But that's immaterial in the end, as the final whistle goes and Bayern Munich are worthy and convincing winners, 3-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate. The players and fans will enjoy their victory tonight but in the morning no doubt their thoughts will turn to who their opponents be when they meet in the Champions League final in the Bernabéu next month
