A late VAR penalty settled both Champions League quarter-finals, albeit 30 minutes apart, as FC Porto secured a quarter-final berth via Alex Telles's late spot kick.
The Brazilian tucked home from 12 yards deep into extra-time to sent Porto through and eliminate a spirited AS Roma side.
Roma's Nicolo Zaniolo had been the star of the first leg, grabbing both Roma goals to lend them a slender advantage heading to Portugal.
But it wasn't long into the second leg before the tie was level, Tiquinho Soares scoring early and sending the Estadio do Dragao crowd wild.
Sergio Conceicao's side dominated possession and had the better of the chances, but in searching for the second goal they needed it was a mistake from highly-rated young defender Eder Militao that gave Roma the away goal they so desperately needed.
Militao's needless foul gave Roma, without a shot on target up to that point, a penalty and a chance to equalise on the night. Daniele De Rossi, as ever, needed no second invitation and silenced the home crowd with a calm finish from the spot.
Porto did not take a step back though, and continued to force the issue and create chances. Soares should have got his second of the night just moments after the break but the hosts would not have to wait long to level the tie on aggregate, with Moussa Marega guiding Jesus Corona's cross into the net.
Marega had been outstanding all night for Porto, and he nearly got a winner late in proceedings until Robin Olsen pulled out a smart, low save.
Frustrated by Roma's backline and Olsen's goalkeeping, the hosts were forced to extra time.
But when Telles was gifted a penalty in the dying moments, he smashed it home to secure passage to the last eight.
