Champions League draw: Who Chelsea could face in the last-16 as group stage reaches conclusion

Chelsea completed their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign with a 1-1 draw against Russian club FC Krasnodar at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.

Having secured their passage to the last-16 on matchday four and position as group winners on matchday five, hammering Sevilla, who also progressed to the knockout stages as runners-up in Group E, 5-0, Chelsea had little to play for against Krasnodar.

Having fallen behind to Remy Cabella's 24th-minute opener, the Blues got themselves back on level terms just four minutes later, netting an equaliser via a Jorginho penalty.

Now that the group stage is concluded, Chelsea can put all of their focus into their Premier League title charge for the time being, with key fixtures against Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United to come.

Although Chelsea's work in the Champions League is done until mid-February, all eyes will be on Monday's draw in Nyon to see who they will face in the last-16.

Last season, the Blues faced Bayern Munich in the last-16, being hammered 7-1 on aggregate, even though the two legs were played more than five months apart due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fortunately for Frank Lampard's side, who are currently on an unbeaten run of 14 games, they will not be drawn against the German giants at the last-16 stage this time around. That is because Bayern have secured top spot in Group A ahead of Atletico Madrid, Red Bull Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Winning your respective group in the Champions League means you will be a seeded team for the last-16 draw, something Chelsea, of course, have the pleasure of.

Champions League rules state that the eight group winners are seeded, with the eight group runners-up entering the draw as unseeded.

The eight group winners will be drawn against the runners-up, with the seeded sides playing away from home in the first-leg of the two-legged clashes.

Teams from the same group or the same association cannot be drawn against each other.

With that in mind, who could Chelsea face in the last-16? Here is the full list of the seven clubs that could face the daunting prospect of locking horns with Lampard's in-form Blues in a couple of months time.

Atletico Madrid

Borussia Monchengladbach

Porto

Atalanta

Lazio

Barcelona

RB Leipzig
