Champions League draw 2019: Man City's possible next opponents for last-16

Manchester City are through to the last-16 of the Champions League after clinching the top spot in Group C.

Pep Guardiola's men have one game left to play but with five points currently separating them from second-place Shakhtar Donetsk, qualification is already secured for the English champions.

This will be the seventh season in a row that City have reached the knockout stages of the competition as they continue to hunt for a first Champions League title.

How did they make it to the last-16?

City got their work in Europe done early, winning their opening three Group C fixtures and scoring 10 goals in the process, half of them in a 5-1 rout of Atalanta in Manchester on 22 October.

Back-to-back 1-1 draws away to the Italians and at home to Shakhtar Donetsk have followed, but with City five points clear going into the final round of fixtures and their trip to Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday, progress is already assured.

Which teams can Manchester City get?

Group A: Real Madrid – The Spanish side can’t finish higher or lower than second, with one game left to play. They’ve qualified for the last-16 behind Paris Saint-Germain.

Group B: N/A – Tottenham finished in second but won’t face City due to the domestic rule which prevents two teams from the same league being drawn against one another in the last-16.

Group C: N/A

Group D: Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen – Juventus have qualified top, meaning they won’t face City. Second place, meanwhile, has yet to be decided, with Atletico and Bayer Leverkusen in contention.

Group E: Napoli  – The Italians were beaten to the top spot by Liverpool. Instead, they've had to settle for second place.

Group F: Borussia Dortmund – The Germans finished in second, four points behind first-placed Barcelona.

Group G: Lyon – Finished as runners-up behind RB Leipzig.

Group H: N/A – Chelsea qualified as runners-up but due to the domestic rule can’t be drawn against their English rivals. Valencia topped the group.

Summary of teams Man City could be drawn against: Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen, Napoli, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon.
