Champions League: Chelsea v Juventus - in pictures
It's four months to the day since Chelsea lifted the European Cup after a tumultuous match in Munich which ended on penalties. Will John Terry and his team-mates be smiling as broadly as this next May? Will they even be smiling by the end of tonight's visit from Juventus? The starting XI's are - Chelsea: Cech; Ivanovic, David Luiz, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Mikel, Lampard; Hazard, Torres, Oscar Juve: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Asamoah; Giovinco, VucinicPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianThe opening period is a tight affair, David Luiz grabs Mirko VucinicPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianJust after the half hour mark, Chelsea's Oscar, whose making his first start for the club, receives the ball from Hazard who has cut in from the left, takes one touch and then lets fly from 25 yards. Buffon has it covered but then the ball takes a crucial deflection off Bonucci's outstretched boot and the ball zips above the Juventus keeper and into the top corner Photograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianIt looks like Oscar, who had previously been quite ineffectual, has suddenly found his range. Just two minutes later he receives the ball from Ashley Cole on the edge of the area, a deft touch takes the ball away from goal and the Juve defenders before the Chelsea player runs back and hits a wonderful first time curling shot over Buffon and into the net from 20 yardsPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianIt was such a fantastic goal it's no wonder his team-mates are so pleasedPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianJust five minutes later Juve are back in the game courtesy of a smartly taken goal by Arturo Vidal, seen here skipping past Oscar. The goal came after a quickfire move concluded with Vidal receiving the ball 20 yards out and lashing a low shot into the cornerPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianOn the stroke of half-time Pirlo stands over a free-kick 26 yards out. This could be dangerous, but luckily for the home side the Italian curls the ball wide. Chelsea have got no-one to blame but themselves for letting this game slip away. John Obi-Mikel gives the ball away deep in his own half and as Marchisio plays a defence splitting ball towards Fabio Quagliarella, John Terry is too slow playing the offside trap and as the Italian is all alone all he has to do is slot the ball through the legs of Cech to give the visitors a deserved equaliserPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianIn the dying moments things almost go from bad to worse for the home side when Quagliarella receives the ball after a swift Juventus move and he turns and hits a curler towards the top corner. Fortunately for Chelsea the shot has just too much on it and it clips the top of the bar and awayPhotograph: Tom Jenkins for the GuardianThe Juve substitute can't believe it, he was just inches away from scoring the winner in his first Champions League tie. He'll have to make do with the satisfaction of scoring the equaliser. Final score: Chelsea 2-2 Juventus Photograph: Tom Jenkins for the Guardian
