Champions League: Barcelona v Real Madrid - in pictures
After last week's battle at the Bernabeu, it looks like we might be in for a feast of fouls and feignings rather than football as after just 26 seconds Real Madrid's Marcelo goes over the top of Barcelona's Pedro RodriguezPhotograph: Andres Kudacki/AP...and Gonzalo Higuain duels with Barca captain Carles PuyolPhotograph: Javier Soriano/AFP/Getty ImagesIn between the fouls and feigning, there is some decent, if unproductive, football being played out there with Barca having most of the possession and being satisfied to frustrate their opponents. Ricardo Carvalho isn't having any of that and clatters into Barcelona's mercurial forward Lionel Messi. Unfortunately for him, his club and it's fans, he spurns the chance by directing his header straight to Casillas in the Madrid goal Photograph: Albert Gea/ReutersCristiano Ronaldo doesn't look too pleased with how the match is goingPhotograph: Andres Kudacki/APAs the teams line up to start the second half, a Barca fan invades the pitch and unsuccesfully tries to put a barretina (a catalan hat) on Cristiano Ronaldo's head before being rugby tackled by a steward Photograph: Lee Smith/Action ImagesThat interloper must have inspired Real Madrid as three minutes into the second half, they have the ball in the Barca net. But unfortunately the ref blows his whistle nanoseconds before Gonzalo Higuain sweeps the ball past Victor Valdes and into the net. The ref'swhistle went for a foul by Ronaldo on Mascherano but the replay shows that Ronaldo was checked by Pique and whilst falling, makes slight contact with the Argentinian but Mascherano goes down in a rather theatrical manner. The Special One will not like that one bit Photograph: Josep Lago/AFP/Getty ImagesHe's going to like this even less. Seven minutes later a precision pass from Iniesta dissects the Real defence and Pedro Rodriguez runs onto the ball, takes one touch to control it then slots it past CasillasPhotograph: Andres Kudacki/AP...before celebrating whilst a bemused Casillas blames his defence...Photograph: Siu Wu/AFP/Getty ImagesHis team-mates eventually catch up with him and the home side definately have one foot in the final Photograph: Siu Wu/AFP/Getty ImagesAnd Xabi Alonso and Raul Albiol know itPhotograph: Albert Gea/ReutersReal Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas punches the ball clear from Gerard Pique Photograph: Alejandro Garcia/EPAJust past the hour mark, and Real Madrid's improved play in the second half pays dividends when they pull a goal back. Di Maria smacks a shot against the post which comes back to him, and rather than having another go he squares it to Marcelo who slams it into the net. He grabs the ball to restart as quickly as possible, could an unlikely comeback be on the cards? Photograph: Lluis Gene/AFP/Getty ImagesWith a quarter of an hour to go Marcelo gets his name into the ref's notebook again when he is shown a yellow card for this sliding challenge on Lionel MessiPhotograph: Lee Smith/Action ImagesDespite some spirited fouling in the last quarter of an hour, Real can't get back into the game and the final whistle means that Barca are on their way to Wembley for the final. Barcelona's coach Pep Guardiola is very excited at the prospectPhotograph: Javier Soriano/AFP/Getty ImagesIn contrast to the histrionics, harsh words and propaganda onslaughts that have accompanied the four matches between the two teams, there's a nice moment during Barca's celebrations when they throw their returning defender Eric Abidal into the air. Abidal came on during injury time to play his first game after undergoing an operation in March to remove a tumour from his liverPhotograph: Josep Lago/AFP/Getty ImagesThe celebrations aren't confined to Camp Nou, as Barcelona's supporters fill the streets as they celebrate a famous victory and plan their trips to WembleyPhotograph: Reuters
