Champion boxer 'Sugar' Shane Mosley rescues baby in crash on 405 Freeway

May 02--Former boxing champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley says he rescued a baby boy during a four-car pileup on the 405 Freeway on Sunday.

In an interview on KCBS-TV, Mosley said his quick instincts kicked in when he and his family witnessed the crash in front of him.

A driver in one of the vehicles appeared distraught, the three-weight division world champion said.

Mosley, 44, quickly noticed a baby in a car seat inside the vehicle. The baby was crying and bleeding, he said.

The driver couldn't open the locked car, so that's when Mosley and his girlfriend moved into action. After calling 911, the boxer and his girlfriend safely removed the baby from vehicle.

"4car pile up on the 405 right in front of me," Mosley tweeted. "My quick reaction time saved my family. Hope the baby the father we stopped to help are ok."

Shortly after rescuing the baby, paramedics arrived and took the father and child to a hospital.

Mosley and his girlfriend grabbed the baby bag from the vehicle and followed the family.

They met the man's wife, who was pregnant with the couple's second child, at the hospital to give them the baby bag, he said.

The father and son appeared to be fine. The child's father was thankful, the boxer said.

"He was crying. He was saying, 'You guys are like an angel. You came down and helped me. Thank you for helping me,'" Mosley said.

By Monday, Mosley was playfully joking about the rescue.

"Up and at em for my morning run. I got my superman cape on underneath just in case ... seriously though that you guys for all the love," he tweeted.
