Champ Bailey says Redskins were incredibly late at congratulating him on HoF

The Washington Redskins were apparently incredibly late in congratulating one of the former players on a Hall of Fame bid.

Champ Bailey goes into the Hall of Fame on Saturday night, though the former Redskins defensive back says the team didn’t reach out to him until days ago.

“Nobody from Washington had called me until three days ago. Nobody,” Bailey said, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “I’m traded and I get to Denver, great organization. I think my Hall of Fame career really started with the Bowlens. To have Pat go in with me is unbelievable.”

Bailey’s career indeed took off over the course of his decade in Denver. In the mindshare of fans, that dwarfs his five-year tenure in Washington.

But this is ridiculous from the Redskins’ perspective. The front office brought him into the league as a top-10 pick and he’s gone on to have a Hall of Fame career.

Don’t fault Bailey if he talks better about Denver than Washington given the circumstances.
