The son of Pheu Thai Party member Wan Yubamrung has met officers of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) to acknowledge a charge that he and his father threatened a man during a brawl at a popular Bangkok nightclub in April.
Archawin, 21, and his father reported to the CSD yesterday after the victim, Panuwat Punnarattanakul, named Mr Wan's son as one of attackers who punched, kicked and threatened him with a weapon.
Mr Wan, son of veteran politician and former deputy prime minister Chalerm Yubamrung, met police in July after the Southern Bangkok Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest. The 44-year-old politician is facing a physical assault charge.
The two suspects squeezed through a throng of media as they approached at the CSD headquarters. After that they dashed into a room to meet Pol Lt Col Bunthiwa Limsirilak, a police inspector with the CSD's subdivision 1.
Pol Lt Col Bunthiwa charged Mr Archawin with "colluding with others to assault a person".
Mr Panuwat, the 34-year-old son of the owners of Mae Thong Suk gold shop, told police he had a quarrel with Mr Archawin when they met in Singapore. His encounter with Mr Archawin's group in Bangkok on the night of April 23 escalated to a brawl.
Mr Archawin, with his father and seven or eight aides, was seen at the crime scene in Thong Lor Soi 10 in Watthana district when the fight took place.
Police investigators said they have footage from a security camera to support the allegation that Mr Archawin injured Mr Panuwat.
According to the complainant, Mr Wan struck first with a punch to the face that knocked him to the ground.
At that point "Archawin kicked me", he said, according to his account.
Mr Panuwat's friends were afraid to intervene after an aide fired a shot into the air, the victim said.
Mr Chalerm has been unavailable for comment.
