Chairman reveals what club got from Bristol City in exchange for young striker after hilarious deals for Arsenal and Manchester United legends

The chairman of a non-league Bristol side says his club have not received any perks for allowing one of their prospects to join Bristol City.

Louis Britton has signed a one-year deal with the Robins' academy after impressing at local side Mangotsfield United.

The 18-year-old has netted 15 times in 19 appearances this season, and his dad Geoff Britton says he hopes he can go to the top.

He was offered a professional contract following a successful trial with the Bristol City Academy last week.

Following the move, Mangotsfield's chairman Mike Richardson has moved to clarify what the club got in return for the young striker.

In the past, non-league clubs have infamously been given equipment and kit by their counterparts in exchange for facilitating a player's move.

In 1984, Middlesbrough gave Billingham Town kits, goal nets and a bag of balls for Gary Pallister, while Greenwich Borough were gifted a weights set by Crystal Palace for Ian Wright in 1985.

However, Mike Richardson confirmed Mangotsfield had not received anything in exchange for their player and said he was just pleased to see a youngster make progress.

Revealed: The amount of Bristol City transfers that involved double representation by an agent

"No, no, we haven't received anything," he said.

"We're hoping to get a game with them in pre-season but that's not decided yet and there hasn't been anything in the way of transfer fee."

So no Bristol City gear for Mangotsfield unfortunately, although they could face the Robins in the summer.

Speaking after the deal for Britton was announced, Richardson said: "He's a Bristol boy and he's looking forward to playing for his hometown club and working with some great coaches.

"He's physical, got an eye for goal and hopefully he can continue to develop at City.

"We're very pleased for Louis, very proud and it's a sign of what we're doing at Mangotsfield in terms of giving young players a chance.

Bristol City forward Andreas Weimann explains his red hot form against the big boys

"He's the first of our new project to get a professional club and we're sure he won't be the last. We have had lots of clubs coming down and looking at our players.

"Louis only signed for us this season but we've helped make him a man and are delighted for him."
