A man allegedly armed himself with a chainsaw and threw bottles at police officers during a stand-off in Tasmania.
Officers were called to a property in Victoria Street, Devonport, about 6:00pm on Wednesday following a complaint from a member of the public about damage to a neighbouring property.
Police said a 47-year-old Devonport man armed with a chainsaw had barricaded himself in his residence.
It is also alleged the man targeted officers with glass bottles during the five-hour-long stand-off.
"Police set up a cordon around the man's residence, utilising units from Devonport, Latrobe, Ulverstone, Deloraine and Devonport CIB," police said.
A negotiation unit attended and "after a period of time" succeeded in persuading the man to allow them to enter.
The man was arrested about 11:00pm "without further incident", police said.
"No-one was injured and no firearms were involved during the incident."
The man has been charged with destroying property, assault, threatening police, and assaulting police.
He remains in custody and is due to appear at Devonport Magistrates Court today.
