Chainsaw racket blasted by knackered neighbours as rail staff cut down trees in dead of night

A resident in the southside of Glasgow has expressed his anger after being woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of chainsaws being used by railway workers.

Chris Jordan, who lives on Victoria Road, said the earsplitting noise began on around 1:50am on Sunday and continued till at least 4am.

Video footage taken by Chris shows Network Rail staff chopping down trees near the railway line with chainsaws, before putting the trees through a wood cutting machine creating further unwanted racket.

He says that no-one in the block of flats he lives in received any prior warning about the noisy works, and has been left perplexed as to why Network Rail decided to schedule them to be done in the middle of the night.

Chris told Glasgow Live: "We have a Facebook group for the building and several residents have stated that they were disrupted and also had to get up for work.

"Nobody received a letter from Network Rail to make us aware of the work that would be carried out. Usually we get some pre-warning. We have no idea if the engineers will be returning again."

Network Rail have been contacted for comment.
