Chadwick Boseman's family insist star was not snubbed at Oscars despite fans' outcry

Many thought the stage was set for an emotional tribute to Chadwick Boseman when it was announced that this year's Oscars ceremony would be finishing with the Best Actor award.

The actor tragically passed away last year aged 43 after a battle with colon cancer and was tipped to win a posthumous award for his role in drama Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

But in a shocking turn of events he lost out to Sir Anthony Hopkins who won the award for his turn in The Father.

It led to an outcry on social media saying the Black Panther actor had been "snubbed".

However, his family have told TMZ this simply isn't true. Instead, they have lavished praise on 83-year-old Anthony for his win.

Chadwick's brother, Derrick Boseman, told the publication that is wasn't a snub as every nominated actor was excellent and deserving of the award.

He said there was no upset or agitation from the family by the decision.

And he admitted that his brother never strived to win an Oscar, revealing how he "always described them to me as a campaign".

That didn't stop viewers of the 93rd Academy Awards going in hard on the award announcement at the time - especially as Anthony wasn't at the ceremony.

Twitter was full of criticism over the decision.

Spencer Althouse said on Twitter : "The Oscars were so sure that Chadwick Boseman was going to win that they re-arranged the entire ceremony so his category could be last.

"And then they gave the award to Anthony Hopkins instead...the most chaotic and unhinged thing I've ever seen."

Another Twitter user commetned: "Every single indication felt like they moved around the categories so that Chadwick Boseman would win best actor at the very end of the show.

"And then Anthony Hopkins wins, doesn’t give a speech, and they roll credits. This is MAXIMUM chaotic energy."

Some fans even hit out at the Oscars for "using" Chadwick's name in an attempt to boost ratings.

One fan lambasted: "its sick how transparent the academy was in using chadwick boseman just for clicks and views, building everything up to the best actor award and inviting his family and giving him a tribute AND putting his head in gift bags and not giving him ANYTHING.... he deserves more respect."

All in all, the ceremony failed to capture the public's attention with viewing figures reaching an all-time low.
