Chadwell Heath death: Woman dies after being found on fire in back garden

A woman has died after she was found on fire in a garden in east London last night.

Emergency services rushed to a property in Chadwell Heath near Romford shortly before midnight and found the woman ablaze.

She was declared dead at the scene.

Fire fighters arrived at the house and then called in the police when they found the woman.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 23:57hrs on Thursday, 18 July by the LFB to a residential address in Lee Avenue, Chadwell Heath following reports of a person on fire in a rear garden.

"The fire was extinguished. A woman, aged in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Police are working to inform next of kin.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained. Enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing."

Two fire engines and around ten fire fighters from the London Fire Brigade responded to calls of a person alight in a rear garden.

It is now investigating the cause of the fire along with the police.
