Chadchart Sittipunt, the former transport minister in the Yingluck Shinawatra government, is still leading the race of potential candidates for the post of Bangkok governor, according to a survey by the National Institute of Development Administration, or Nida Poll.
The poll, the fifth popularity rating survey to date, was conducted by telephone interviews between Aug 30-Sept 2 on 1,371 eligible voters aged 18 and over of all levels of education, incomes and occupation in Bangkok The date for the gubernatorial election has yet to be fixed by the Election Commission.
Asked whom they would vote for if the election were held today, the answers varied as follows:
- 27.71% said they would vote for Chadchart Sittipunt, former transport minister in the Yingluck Shinawatra government;
- 24.60% were still undecided;
- 15.49% were for Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda, a former police chief;
- 9.57% for Pol Gen Aswin Khwanmuang, the current Bangkok governor;
- 5.24% for a candidate from the Progressive Movement or the Move Forward Party;
- 4.10% for Rossana Tositrakul, a former senator;
- 3.27% for a candidate from the Pheu Thai Party;
- 2.20% for a candidate from the Democrat Party;
- 1.67% for Suchatchavee Suwansawas, rector of the King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang;
- 1.06% for a candidate from the Kla Party;
- 1.06% for a candidate from the Palang Pracharath Party.
The remainder said they would vote for other candidates or not bother going to the polls.
