'Chad Powers' stars share season 2 hopes for the Hulu comedy series: 'We barely scratched the surface'

This article contains spoilers for the "Chad Powers" season finale.

If you've read my "Chad Powers" review, you'll know I didn't end up loving Glen Powell's new show, but if you've just finished watching episode six, you'll know that the Hulu/Disney Plus series leaves us on quite the cliffhanger.

Ahead of the series finale, I had the opportunity to sit down with stars Perry Mattfeld and Quentin Plair. Given that the episode crescendos with that big confrontation between Ricky (Mattfeld) and Chad/Russ aboard the team bus, after she's learned the truth of his identity, I couldn't help but ask whether they had hopes for a second season.

If you're a fan, you should definitely keep your fingers crossed for an official announcement, but Mattfeld and Plair definitely made it sound like you should keep your hopes up for "Chad Powers" season 2.

"I really hope, yeah," Mattfeld said. "I think what's crazy is by the end of season one, it really feels like we barely scratched the surface, and unfortunately [we] end on a huge cliffhanger, so we'll just have to see."

Plair hints that there's already something brewing, adding, "Definitely, and I know the writers have got big plans, so absolutely."

Granted, those responses aren't too surprising. When I asked what their first impressions of the "Chad Powers" idea were, both were very enthusiastic; Mattfeld said the pilot was "one of the funniest things I'd ever read."

"I just had never seen anything like it", the star commented. "We both knew about Eli's skit, but I was so surprised at the world that Glen and Michael had created around the skit. The pilot was probably one of the funniest things I'd ever read. I laughed out loud multiple times while blowing through that script the first time I got it.

Plair added, "Yeah, very similar. I thought the skit was hilarious and also great, cause I was a walk-on in college, so I understood what that was like, and going through that.

"Then, I read the script, and it was just a completely different take on it. I thought it was interesting, I thought it was intriguing, I thought there was a lot there from all the characters' perspectives that you could bring into it, and I thought there was something specific that I, as a person of knowledge of this very specific sect of life, could bring to this coach."

What else has been said about the future of 'Chad Powers'?

Mattfeld and Plair's comments were encouraging enough, but the tease of "big plans" makes perfect sense when you throw in what co-creators Glen Powell and Michael Waldron have said.

Speaking to TheWrap, the pair made it clear that they had fun making "Chad Powers," and if there was a chance audiences would want more, they don't want to bench him just yet.

Powell said, "I've never had such a good time making anything. When you get to collaborate with one of your best pals and make something that you love so much and that brings such joy to people.

"I just really feel so proud that we've done this first season, and when you feel that way, you always make time. And so obviously it's a bit of a wild moment, but I have a lot of energy and especially a lot of energy to do something that gives me a lot of joy with people I love."

Waldron also chimed in, "If folks dig it, we'll make more."

As the series has proven to be somewhat divisive — it's currently sitting at 57% on Rotten Tomatoes, though the audience score is significantly higher (75%) — there's clearly an appetite to bring Hulu's star player back among the cast and crew; fans will just have to wait to see whether Disney believes in "Chad Powers" enough to renew it.

All six episodes of "Chad Powers" are now streaming on Hulu and Disney Plus in the UK
