The Miami Dolphins have endured two departures from their wide receiver room in the last 48 hours after the decisions by Allen Hurns and Albert Wilson to sit out the 2020 NFL season. Miami will have no choice but to take their losses in stride here — unless of course the team is able to find a suitable replacement via either the waiver wire, trade or unrestricted free agency. If the Dolphins are going to kick the tires on bringing in a fresh face to help support their current wide receivers, they officially have their first volunteer:
Former Dolphins receiver Chad Johnson. Johnson logged over 11,000 receiving yards and 67 touchdowns throughout the course of his illustrious career — although he logged all of that production and none of it came with Miami. It seems as though Johnson would like to change that.
Johnson’s former stint with Miami was short-lived — he was set to play the 2012 season with the Dolphins before off the field conduct prompted his release — before ever taking a snap for Miami. His release was one of the most popular moments from the Dolphins’ season of HBO’s Hard Knocks and former coach Joe Philbin’s handling of the situation was a precursor to some of the coaching issues that the team would have to endure throughout the course of his tenure.
Johnson hasn’t played since in the NFL since and of course that means there’s no chance that Miami takes Johnson up on his offer — he’s 42 years old and hasn’t played in nearly a decade.
