After establishing himself as one of the top draft analysts around the league, Chad Ford had left the scene for multiple years before resurfacing in recent months. Ford has begun talking with executives and scouts around the league to get a feel on the draft while offering up those insights on his podcast with the LockedOn network, “Chad Ford’s NBA Big Board.”
On one of his recent podcasts, Ford revealed the first edition of his big board while diving into what teams are saying about Ball (h/t HoopsHype).
“Plenty of concerns from NBA teams about him. He’s not an explosive athlete. He’s been a really streaky shooter with poor form on a shot. He struggled as an on-the-ball defender and he carries some of that baggage of the Ball name with him as well. And that certainly is working against him.”
The baggage questions continue to be largely unfounded given how Lonzo’s career has played out. While LaVar has had moments of outbursts, it has never directly impacted Lonzo’s career and even the indirect impacts have been minimal.
Many of the other concerns are ones Lonzo faced as well when entering the league and in his first season. His streaky shot wasn’t properly fixed until this season, he still isn’t a particularly explosive athlete. His defense was a question until he showcased a surprising ability on that end of the floor.
