Chad Denies Plans to Open Diplomatic Mission in Jerusalem

Chad Tuesday evening denied media reports claiming that it was considering opening a diplomatic mission in Jerusalem.

The Chadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amine Abba Sidick, formally denied the media reports as “baseless information”, WAFA news agency reported.

“The resumption of diplomatic relations between Chad and Israel in no way undermines Chad’s position on the question of Palestine and the occupied Arab territories”, he added.

Chad “therefore remains very attached to the global dialogue for an acceptable political solution which involves peaceful coexistence between Palestine and the State of Israel, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.”

The denial came after the son of Chad’s President Idriss Deby, Abdelkerim, indicated his country was willing to take this step during a meeting with Israeli officials yesterday, as reported in Israeli media.

Chad, along with 30 African countries, broke off its relations with Israel in 1973.

In 2018, the first Chadian president visited Israel and Netanyahu visited Chad the following year.
