Chace Crawford has revealed he never dated a co-star while working on Gossip Girl, but that didn’t stop him from broadening his dating pool to those beyond the core cast.
Crawford, who played Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl, spoke of his romances on the set of the drama series during an interview on the Armchair Expert podcast, confirming he “never dated anyone on the show”.
The actor did admit that “connections” — like that between former flames and co-stars Blake Lively and Penn Badgley— “did happen” among his castmates, but that he chose to “meet people” outside of the main ensemble.
“There’s a lot of guest stars and people in the orbit of the show that you’d meet through other friends even, and I remember that was a way to meet people,” Crawford said.
The Boys star stopped short of revealing which guest stars or Gossip Girl-adjacent people he met during his time on the show, but said the environment on set wasn’t exactly conducive to romance in any case.
“There’s 60 people watching, the boom mic is there, they want you to be shirtless. It’s like a whole other thing,” Crawford revealed.
Crawford’s Gossip Girl character had romantic entanglements with both Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester) and Serena van der Woodsen (Lively), but in real life, the actor is reportedly currently dating model Kelsey Merritt.
Alongside Lively and Badgley, who dated for three years, Gossip Girl also birthed romances between Meester and Sebastian Stan (who played Carter Baizen) and Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr who played Chuck Bass and Vanessa Abrams, respectively.
During his podcast appearance, Crawford put the various flings down to the “college-like” experience of filming Gossip Girl.
“When you’re young, it is a different thing because it is like a college experience. Everyone’s kind of single and dating or whatever. No one’s married. The stakes are very low. It is a funnier, more college-like school experience for sure,” he said.
Crawford is currently starring in the fifth and final season of The Boys, which airs its series finale later this month.
