CGI set to create new jobs as part of Borders Railway terminus office plan

CGI has signed a multi-million pound deal to provide digital services to Scottish Borders Council, which could create dozens of new jobs by the end of the year.

The IT consulting company currently employs 71 people in the region, but hopes to increase that number to 127.

Many of these new jobs would be based at a new office being built near the Borders Railway terminus in Tweedbank, as part of wider development in the area.

It has been estimated that an 'innovation park' planned for the site could create up to 350 jobs in total.

A development update to councillors stated that work had been continuing throughout the pandemic and the office for CGI should be handed over to the local authority in late September.

It is then expected to move in after the fit-out process, as part of a commitment to "secure and provide" local employment opportunities.

Lyndsey Teaz, vice president at CGI, said: “CGI, as primary provider of Scottish Borders Council’s end-to-end managed IT services, works alongside the council to not only transform its digital infrastructure, but also improve on digital skills and learning and support innovation.

“A key part of this has been to significantly expand our workforce in the area - and we are actively recruiting.”
