A Country Fire Service volunteer was injured fighting a truck fire on the South Eastern Freeway last night.

The B-double truck was engulfed in flames just before 8pm at Callington.

Up to 30 firefighters were involved in putting out the fire, which involved multiple explosions.

The injured volunteer was taken to the Murray Bridge Soldiers' Memorial Hospital with soft tissue injuries but was not admitted.

However, the B-double truck was destroyed and removed from the scene early this morning.

It had been carrying tyres, drinks and shock absorbers, the last of which caused the explosions.

Lane restrictions are still in place for drivers heading towards Murray Bridge.

Traffic was also slow on the South Eastern Freeway yesterday after a crash at Bridgewater.

A man from the same suburb died in a crash on the freeway last month.
