The Common Entrance Test (CET) 2021 for admission to professional courses has been postponed in the wake of the second wave of COVID-19. The entrance exam will now be conducted on August 28 and 29, while the Kannada language test will be held on August 30. The test was originally scheduled to be held on July 7 and 8, and the Kannada language test on July 9.
In a press release, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), which conducts the test, said the decision was taken on account of COVID-19 cases rising in the State as well as the State government’s decision to postpone the second pre-university (PU) annual examination.

The decision to postpone the entrance examination has been welcomed by many candidates. Ramesh S., a second PU student, said, “It has been an extremely stressful academic year for us and a prolonged one as well. I want to take two weeks off and later resume my preparations for the entrance examination.”
Echoing the views of many PU students, Pooja S., an engineering seat aspirant, said, “We are worried about our health. There is no point in writing the exam if our health is at risk. We are glad that the authorities took the correct decision,” she said.
A.H. Ninge Gowda, president of the Karnataka Pre-university College Lecturers’ Association, said that even lecturers were extremely anxious as many had tested positive and some had succumbed to the infection. “Lecturers do not want to venture out to conduct the test given the current situation,” he said.
