Cesc Fabregas waxes lyrical about one Chelsea star after Real Madrid clash

Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has hailed N'Golo Kante for his individual performance against Real Madrid.

Kante played the full 90 minutes for the Blues against Los Blancos in the Champions League semi-final first-leg that finished 1-1.

Thomas Tuchel's side started really well at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, with Christian Pulisic scoring a wonderful solo goal to open the scoring.

Chelsea had numerous opportunities to extend their lead and add another crucial away goal, but Madrid stood firm.

The hosts eventually found a leveller through their top scorer Karim Benzema - who struck a brilliant volley past Edouard Mendy.

It was overall a superb Chelsea display, with the west London side playing with plenty of control in the rainy Spanish capital.

One man perhaps stood out more than others in Kante, who once again proved his worth to Tuchel on the biggest of occasions.

Fabregas, formerly of the Blues and Arsenal, was particularly impressed with how the France midfielder fared against the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro.

He tweeted: "N’golo has always been a big game player. Never doubt him. He plays for 2."

Kante has struggled with injury issues recently, so the Blues will be hoping he's fully fit for next week's vital second-leg.

Fabregas has spoken very highly of Kante in the past, and back in 2017, the Spaniard said this on his former team-mate to the club's official website: "Now N'Golo is becoming famous for chasing around and making tackles that recover the ball and end up in goals, but he does other things very well.

"But because this is now his reputation, people just look into this and they don't look to see if he does something else. I think we are winners as a group.

"We hate losing but every manager is the leader of the team and he is like that too. So it makes us show it in a more positive way."
