Cesc Fabregas was left stunned as Liverpool's late winner at Everton was chalked off by VAR for the tightest of offside infringements.
Jordan Henderson thought he had given his side an unassailable 3-2 win over the 10-man Toffees with his injury-time strike following Sadio Mane's pass.
But the Reds captain's delight soon disintegrated as the goal was ruled out after a lengthy VAR check found Mane was offside in the build-up.
To the naked eye, the Senegalese appeared to be in line with Everton defenders Yerry Mina and Michael Keane, but the lines drawn during the check judged him to have been offside.
In response to the decision, Fabregas took to social media to voice his despair at the direction the modern game is going. "How’s that offside? Game’s gone mad," he wrote on Twitter.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was similarly bemused by the decision as he discussed the offside call after the match.
"I saw the Henderson goal back. I didn't see an offside, sorry," Klopp said. "Maybe someone will explain it to me but the picture we saw was not offside. But it was offside because someone decided it was."
Though Liverpool were forced to settle for a point after the VAR decision, Klopp insisted he was happy with the display from his team.

The Reds boss added: "The performance was top. You could see that was a top game, a good game from both teams.
"We were clearly dominant against a side full of confidence with a clear plan.
"We played a really good game and it was probably the best away game at Goodison since I've been at Liverpool but it finished 2-2 for different reasons.
"You think I'm only happy if we win, and I would be more happy if we did but the response and performance at least was good."
