Matteo Guendouzi was once tipped to have a big future at Arsenal.
An arrival at the Emirates Stadium from Lorient in the summer of 2018, the Frenchman quickly established himself as a key player under Unai Emery in his first season at the club.
And soon into his second year Guendouzi was one of few players to emerge with any credit following a slow start to the 2019/20 season which saw Emery sacked in November.
Of the many impressive performances produced by the midfielder, one that immediately springs to mind was against Manchester United at Old Trafford as Arsenal claimed a point.
Such was Guendouzi's standout display that he made Cesc Fabregas take notice.
In fact, the former Gunners captain made a bold prediction about Guendouzi on the back of the 1-1 draw at the 'Theatre of Dreams'.
"Gotta love Guendouzi," Fabregas tweeted. "He can play good or not so good but always shows up in difficult moments at such a young age.
"Big future ahead of him at Arsenal."
Plenty has changed since Fabregas put out that tweet and it's safe to say he's been proved wrong about Guendouzi having a big future at Arsenal.
Not only did the latter find himself frozen out by Mikel Arteta towards the end of the 2019/20 season, but he was loaned out to Hertha Berlin last term.
And after Guendouzi's loan deal to Marseille was confirmed, he effectively revealed that his Arsenal career is over despite the Ligue 1 side only holding an option to buy him on a permanent deal next summer rather than it being an obligation to buy.
"Thank you Arsenal FC, thanks for everything!," Guendouzi posted on his Twitter page. "I discovered and learned so much during my time here.
"It would be impossible to list everything without forgetting one memory or word… But I will never forget any minute spent with the Gunners jersey."
