Cesc Fabregas has told Frank Lampard how to get the best out of Timo Werner at Chelsea

Cesc Fabregas has delivered his verdict on Chelsea striker Timo Werner.

The Germany international arrived from RB Leipzig for £47.5m this summer and has started both of the Blues' Premier League games so far this season against Brighton and Liverpool.

Despite not getting on the scoresheet in either game, Werner did win a penalty in each.

Frank Lampard vows to support Kepa Arrizabalaga after another costly mistake

In the 3-1 win over the Seagulls, Jorginho made no mistake from 12 yards as he comfortably dispatched his effort from 12 yards to break the deadlock at the Amex Stadium.

However, the central midfielder couldn't repeat the trick six days later as his penalty was saved by Alisson Becker after Werner was brought down in the area by Reds debutant Thiago Alcantara.

Either side of the hosts going down to 10-men on the stroke of half-time, Werner did have a few sightings at goal, but is still awaiting his first competitive strike for the club.

Whilst fans wait for Werner to open his account, Blues head coach Frank Lampard has already been told how he could get the best from the German.

And it could involve getting the ball forward quicker.

Former Blues midfielder Fabregas was full of praise for one particular aspect of Werner's game - his runs. Taking to Twitter during the game, the Spaniard made sure to acknowledge the work the striker does off the ball.

"Werner’s runs," he tweeted with a clap and thumbs up emoji.

Fabregas' comments prompted some Chelsea fans to send tactical messages to Lampard.

One said: "Anytime Timo raises his head with the ball during a counter attack, he sees no one running ahead to pass to. When he runs ahead for a pass during a counter attack, they pass the ball back."

Another said: "He played well today but No support from his teammates anytime his on the run. Lamps needs to work on his wings and counter-attack formation."
