Cesc Fabregas fires Ligue 1 warning to Lionel Messi after stunning PSG move

Cesc Fabregas has warned Lionel Messi his Monaco team are ready to fight to ensure Paris-Saint Germain don’t canter to the Ligue 1 title.

PSG are huge favourites to win the French title after they secured the signing of Messi this week from Barcelona.

The 34-year-old has joined on a two-year deal, worth around £1m-a-week, and he joins a glittering forward line that includes Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

But Fabregas says his Monaco side, who finished third last season, aren’t about to roll over easily for PSG.

“Football is about competing. Football is about having the passion to do well,” said the midfielder.

“Football is about having the dream and the enthusiasm to always be better than the rest. Is it going to be possible? We don’t know, but we have to try.

“Who was going to think that last year Lille were going to win the title? Right now, last year, probably nobody, not even Lille themselves.

“On paper yes, they (PSG) are the best team, but that doesn’t guarantee anything. It will be tough, but we (Monaco) are a young group full of energy and we are very proud of what we are doing.

“Hopefully we keep growing as a team and manage to compete against them, at least until the end, and make it difficult for them.

“Of course that they have a fantastic team helps, but that doesn’t guarantee that they have to win all the titles.”
