Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta is refusing to get too far ahead of himself after helping the Blues defeat Atletico Madrid 1-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday evening.
The Blues defeated the Spanish giants by the odd goal in Bucharest as a second half stunner from Frenchman Olivier Giroud sealed a huge first-leg win, as well as securing a crucial away goal.
Chelsea delivered a solid and resolute performance against Diego Simeone's side, ensuring they maintained their unbeaten start to life under head coach Thomas Tuchel in the process.
Although the Blues have a crucial one-goal advantage ahead of the second-leg at Stamford Bridge next month, Azpilicueta is remaining focused on the task that lies ahead, insisting there "is still a lot to do."
"That was obviously a tight game, there were not a lot of chances," Azpilicueta told Chelsea's club website. "We knew we had to make the most of them because they are very solid, they defend together, it is not easy.
"We had to defend together as a team and we did a solid team performance, but there is still a lot to do.
"They are a solid team. We know that they have quality players, that they can make a lot of chances with different solutions and when it is a Champions League last 16 we know that every chance is very important."
Whilst the Blues dominated proceedings against Atletico, the tie, according to Azpilicueta is far from over, with the Spaniard remaining adamant that a lot of work is still to be done if they are to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.
The Chelsea ace added: "Now we have it in our sights but there is still a lot to do and we fully believe that we are very capable of doing a good match again in the second leg.
"We play every game to win. We scored one away goal and it is important, we won, we didn’t concede any chances or goals.
"We’ve played the first leg and it’s a positive result, but we know there is lots to do and we work to improve and go through."
