Cesar Azpilicueta reacts to Chelsea's humiliating 4-0 loss against Manchester United

Chelsea deserved more against Manchester United.

That's the view of Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta when reflecting on the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United as Frank Lamaprd's reign as head coach got off to the worst possible start.

Marcus Rashford scored twice while Anthony Martial and Daniel James also got on the scoresheet to inflict a heavy defeat on the west London outfit on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

The visitors did start strongly at Old Trafford, hitting the post through Tammy Abraham but things went downhill the moment Kurt Zouma clumsily conceded a penalty for the opener.

Azpilicueta was heavily criticised for his role in Man United's three second half goals and he's opened up on what went wrong for his side.

"We’re obviously very disappointed with the result because we controlled the game, especially in the first-half, and created a lot of chances but we couldn’t score, he said.

"It’s a tough scoreline to take but we weren’t clinical in the boxes and after we conceded two goals in two minutes, things were more difficult for us.

"From that point, we were more open and gave them more spaces, they got more confidence and at the end we got a tough result.

"We deserved more but it is what it is and we have to move on."

Chelsea don't have too long to lick their wounds as they're back in action as early as Wednesday.

They face Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup - the reward for winning last season's Europa League final against London rivals Arsenal - presenting Lampard with a chance to win his first trophy as Blues head coach in just his second competitive game in charge.

What's for certain is they can't afford to make the same mistakes made against Man United when they face Liverpool.
