Cesar Azpilicueta names the Chelsea youngster the Blues must keep faith in this season

Cesar Azpilicueta believes Chelsea must continue to have faith in Tammy Abraham this season with the youngster getting his chance to start against Manchester United.

The 21-year-old almost got off the to the perfect start at Old Trafford when he smashed the post from the edge of the box. However, he struggled to get into the game as much after that.

Abraham, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi are fighting to be the main striker for the Blues this season, with Frank Lampard leaning towards Abraham as his main man.

And Azpilicueta believes the Blues must have faith in the young striker taking his first steps in Chelsea's first team.

"I know Tammy for a long time from when he was in the academy and I saw him a lot of times, training," Azpilicueta said.

"When he was on loan I saw his improvement. We are talking about a player whose strength was to be in Chelsea's first team. Since he has been very young he has been at Chelsea, so after some loan spells he has the chance to be here.

"He made an amazing job last season at Aston Villa, in pre-season he has worked very hard and he got the chance to start on Sunday and he was very close to starting very well and scoring a goal. Strikers live for goals.

"We need to keep encouraging him to keep doing his job, to keep doing his movements.

"At his age the only way that he will go is up and he will keep improving day by day. We trust him. We know that to be a striker for Chelsea demands a lot, your best level every day.

"But I am confident and trust him a lot and hopefully he will give us a lot of success at Chelsea. He has a great talent, work rate and obviously that goal could have helped for the confidence, but I trust him."
