Cesar Azpilicueta calms Chelsea fans' one fear over Frank Lampard as head coach

Cesar Azpilicueta has urged Chelsea supporters not be concerned over Frank Lampard's lack of experience at being their head coach.

Before taking the top job at Stamford Bridge, Lampard had only one season of management under his belt with Derby County.

The head coaching role was a likely destination for Lampard one day in the future, however the timeline was brought foward due to incidents off the pitch, making him the top candidate.

The 41-year-old took Derby to sixth in the Championship and the play-off final, eventually losing to Aston Villa.

However, despite a lack of years in a similar role, Azpilicueta believes Chelsea fans should not be concerned.

"There is nothing to be worried about," said the 29-year-old Spain international.

"His experience as manager is one year in Derby but there is the whole experience he has as a player, playing in the highest level, under a lot of very good managers, his personality, behaviour and experience.

"I am sure his desire and passion for being manager and this chance to be manager of Chelsea, the club he loves and where the fans love him.

"All of the club, we are very excited, and the only way we can carry it is by starting and winning together, getting the feeling back of being all together as a club. Every year gets harder and harder and we have to be ready."

The fan reaction of Lampard being in the top job has been very bouyant, which is more than could be said at times under the tenure of Maurizio Sarri.

And Azpilicueta wants the Blues fans behind them all the way.

"It is true that last season for periods we didn't give them what they expected," he added.

"Our level and performances were not good enough and the reason they were not happy with and negative.

"We turned it around and got the Europa League at the end. You can see that this season all of the fans are very happy and we have the gaffer back at the Bridge.

"Now we have to give it back by working hard on the pitch, by winning games – which I think is the best way to be even more together and drive in the same way."
