'Certain' - Jules Kounde has already made feelings on transfer clear amid Tottenham links

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Sevilla and France defender Jules Kounde this summer, according to reports.

The Guardian are reporting that the 22-year-old has a €80million (£69million) release clause in his contract with the Seville-based club and is expected to leave the La Liga outfit this summer.

Spurs are interested in signing a new central defender and Joachim Andersen is someone who has been looked at this summer, with the former Fulham loanee returning to his parent club Lyon this summer.

Kounde, who enjoyed a fine season with Sevilla in 2020/21, has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea recently, but now Tottenham have been credited with an interest in his services.

The France international, who has featured once for his country so far at Euro 2020, has already opened up on his future with the Spanish club amid heavy transfer speculation.

Last month, Kounde said that it's "certain" he will change clubs this summer.

"Regarding my future, it’s certain that I will perhaps have to change clubs this summer," the Sevilla star said.

"But nothing has been finalised yet. I have not decided anything.

"My goal is to play for a big club, to try to always progress and to win trophies. It’s true that I might have to move but that’s not relevant today."

Kounde's defensive partner at Sevilla, Diego Carlos, insisted back in March of this year that the French centre-back has the quality to make a move to one of the top clubs in Europe.

"Yes, he has quality and he can play for great European clubs," Carlos said in an interview with the Daily Mail.

"He is a young player who can still improve over time, he has got great qualities, he is very strong and I am sure he can play for a big club as a great defender.

"We have good communication on and off the pitch and we have a good relationship.

"To have a strong defence, we also need all the other players to help us and we can help them to attack, so Kounde really looks to attack too and like all the other midfielders, we all help each other and we are a good team in attack and defence."

As it stands, Spurs currently have Joe Rodon, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga as centre-back options heading into the 2021/22 season.
