Ceri Bowley has bid an emotional farewell to the City Football Group with the coach set to be appointed to Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s backroom team at Ibrox.
Recent reports claimed Bowley was to move to Scotland and now he has confirmed his departure from the conglomerate made up of clubs such as Manchester City, New York City, Melbourne City, Girona and Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou’s former club Yokohama F. Marinos.
Van Bronckhorst came across Bowley, who has been working as head of coaching support since 2019 at CFG, when the Dutchman left Feyenoord and had a spell learning Manchester City. during a sabbatical. And now he has confirmed his departure. He posted a message on Twitter which read: “Today was my last working day as Head of Coaching Support at City Football Group. It has been a privilege to work for a prestigious organisation who are among the leaders in multi-club ownership. Twelve countries and five continents, I am blessed to have witnessed the power of the beautiful game to unite people in pursuit of a common vision.
“From six clubs in 2019 to 12 today there have been so many special moments - league titles and championships, promotions, club trained player debuts, coach transitions to name a few… unforgettable.
“I have experienced and learned more than I could ever have imagined in the pats 3+ years and will be forever grateful for the opportunity afforded to me. To global football colleagues, your determination and relentless commitment will continue to inspire - keep being awesome! Finally, to all technical football staff, thank you for allowing me to be part of your journeys. It has been an honour to share the rollercoaster that each season brought. I will continue to support from afar. Good luck and thank you.”
Van Bronckhorst currently has fellow Dutchmen Roy Makaay, Dave Vos and Arno Phillips assisting him and Bowley looks set to join them at Rangers. The Athletic reported that the man who has a PhD in sports psychology from Cardiff Metropolitan University would take up a ‘wide-ranging' role at Ibrox.
